Petar Stefanov

Peter Stefanov is a geographer in the Physical Geography section of the Department of Geography in the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography. His scientific interests and researchеs are in the field of karstology and karst

geosystems. He is the organizer of the Experimental Laboratory of Karstology at the NIGGG-BAS and a network for integrated instrumental monitoring of model karst geosystems in Bulgaria. He is the author of more than 60 scientific publications and of the specialized educational strategy ProKARSTerra-Edu for innovative training and karst education for / through karst. Leader or participant in more than 40 scientific projects, incl. 3 of UNESCO. Organizer of 5 international scientific and practical forums (2002, 2005, 2012, 2015, 2019), 4 of which are dedicated to karst. Participated in a number of national and international karst exploration expeditions, including in Cuba (1988) and China (1990). He supports 3 international scientific networks, 2 of which are based in the NIGGG-BAS. Editor of the magazine GEOgraphy`21 (2003-2011). Author of textbook on physical geography (1995, 2000).
