Kostadin Ganev


Vice-President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences


Corresponding Member Kostadin Ganev was elected Vice-President of the Academy at a General Assembly meeting on 09.01.2017.

Kostadin Ganev was born on 14.10.1953 in Sofia. In 1978, he graduated in Physics from the Faculty of Physics of Sofia University “St. Kl. Ohridski”. In 1984, he received his PhD degree; in 2009 became Doctor of Sciences. He was elected corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 2014.

The areas of scientific interest of corresponding- member Ganev are mesoscale atmospheric dynamics, the dynamics of the planetary boundary layer, the transport of air pollution in the atmosphere and the study about the air quality. Kostadin Ganev has many years of expertise in the field of air quality control and management and participates and directs the development of national regulatory methodologies in this field. He has 51 scientific publications in international journals and series, with over 370 citations and h-index – 8.

He has been working at BAS since 1978 at the Geophysical Institute (now National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography), and has successively gone through all academic positions.
