Yavor Chapanov is a profesor at the Department of Geodesy at the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The research tasks and scientific interests are focused on Space Geodesy, Geodetic Astronomy, Astrometry, Earth Orientation Parameters, some geophysical processes, solar- terrestrial influences, effects of solar activity on Earth rotation, Mean Sea Level, climate and climate indices, river flow, ice thickness variations and long-term forecasts, based on solar harmonics.
